Vikings top Bulldogs in OT

Huntington North held off Dayton recruit Steve McElvene and New Haven for a 58-57 overtime win Wednesday at New Haven.

The Bulldogs led by six after the first quarter, but Huntington North tied it at 29 by halftime. The teams matched each other the rest of the way, with the Vikings getting a 6-5 edge in overtime.

McElvene finished with 18 points, and Ball State football recruit Jordan Hogue had 15 for New Haven.

Kyle Platt (19) and Konnor Platt (13) led the Vikings.

Girls basketball

EAST NOBLE 60, NORTHROP 41: Senior forward Kourtney Edwards had 15 points as the Knights built off a 25-17 halftime lead. Central Michigan recruit Aleah Swary had a game-high 19 points for Northrop.

LEO 51, BELLMONT 24: Ten players scored for the Lions, led by freshman Abbie Heischman’s 11 points. Bellmont junior Amanda Hunter had a game-high 13 points for the Braves.

FREMONT 49, READING (Mich.) 41: Sophomore forward Shae Rhonehouse had 22 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists for the Eagles. Senior forward Miranda White was a point away from a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

HOMESTEAD 64, ANGOLA 25: Freshman guard Karissa McLaughlin scored 16 points, and her Spartans forced 23 turnovers.
