Commissioners rezone ag land for subdivision

County commissioners on Friday approved rezoning about 75 acres in northwest Allen County to ready the way for a residential subdivision.

About 75 acres on the east side of the 13500 to 13600 block of Auburn Road, the south side of Crawford Road and just west of Interstate 69 was rezoned from agriculture to single family residential. The development includes 134 lots with a density of 1.9 units per acre, said Chris Beebe, an associate planner at the Plan Commission.

A public hearing held Nov. 14 drew no comments for or against the subdivision, and the Plan Commission had unanimously recommended approval, Beebe said.

Commissioner Nelson Peters asked why there was only one access to the housing development off Auburn Road.

If there had been slightly more residences in the plans – between 150 and 200 – two entrances would have been required, but not for 134 lots, Beebe said.
