FORT WAYNE – Homestead and Carroll have been invited to join the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) in football and boys and girls basketball, according to multiple sources.
Homestead and Carroll have until Dec. 20 to accept the offer for the two sports only.
Homestead and Carroll will be in the market for a new conference after the six remaining Northeast Hoosier Conference (NHC) members leave in 2015 to form a new league with Leo and Huntington North. Other schools in the league are Bellmont, Columbia City, DeKalb, East Noble, New Haven and Norwell.
The SAC has eight members with the closing of Elmhurst and Harding over the last few years. The other schools are Bishop Dwenger, Bishop Luers, Concordia, Northrop, North Side, Snider, South Side and Wayne.
Athletic directors Joe Updegrove of Homestead and Dan Ginder of Carroll did not comment on the invitation.
South Side principal and SAC president Carlton Mable is out of the office until Tuesday and unavailable for comment.
