Pence to make Fort Wayne visit

Gov. Mike Pence is coming to Fort Wayne tomorrow for a public policy speech and an awards presentation.

But his office hadn't sent out an official advisory by late Wednesday.

Fort Wayne Community Schools spokeswoman Krista Stockman said the governor's office called the Fairfield Elementary School principal last week about holding an event there.

They requested kids on stage with the governor, she said, but would give no details about the speech.

"All we knew is it was something about families. They did not go through the district or public affairs office," Stockman said. "Not knowing what this was, we declined to have our school used as the location."

Instead, Allen County Right to Life sent out notice of the event Wednesday afternoon to be held at the Fort Wayne Boys & Girls Club on Fairfield Avenue at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Pence will expand on some legislative agenda items to improve the health, safety and well-being of families and children. Some of them include increasing the exemption for parents and children in Indiana's tax code and expanding and improving adoption in Indiana by offering parents a credit to offset adoption expenses.
