Last 2 soccer champs coming to city

– The last two NCAA men’s soccer champions will square off in Fort Wayne again.

The Shindigz National Soccer Festival announced Wednesday that Notre Dame and Indiana will play at the Sport Club on April 12.

The Irish won this season’s title with a 2-1 victory over Maryland on Sunday. It was Notre Dame’s first championship in men’s soccer.

The Hoosiers won the 2012 title with a 1-0 victory over Georgetown, and they were involved in the last battle of champions in Fort Wayne.

IU played North Carolina, the 2011 champion, on Aug. 25 at Hefner Field with the Tar Heels winning 1-0.

“Each year the best of the best continue to view the Festival as the supreme place to complete against the finest teams in the country. They know they can count on being paired with another great team and Northeast Indiana always creates an electric atmosphere,” Terry Stefankiewicz, Soccer Festival director, said in a statement.
