Carroll, Homestead accept limited SAC invitation

Carroll and Homestead have accepted offers to join the Summit Athletic Conference for football and boys and girls basketball, beginning in 2015.

Athletic directors Dan Ginder (Carroll) and Joe Updegrove (Homestead) confirmed the schools joining Friday.

?"We would like to notify you that Carroll High School has accepted the offer presented to us by the Summit Athletic Conference,?" Ginder wrote in an email. "Beginning in the fall of 2015 Carroll will join the SAC Conference for Football and Boys and Girls Basketball."

Updegrove confirmed the Spartans'? intentions in a text message.

Homestead and Carroll will be in the market for a new conference after the remaining six members of the Northeast Hoosier Conference leave in 2015 to form a new league with Leo and Huntington North.

Currently, the SAC has eight members with the closing of Elmhurst and Harding during the last few years.

The two schools were invited to join last week, and given Friday as the deadline to accept or decline the offer.
