Woman charged with aiding criminal

A Fort Wayne woman is accused of helping a man evade arrest on child molesting charges.

Allen County prosecutors formally charged Jennifer S. Sauer of Huntington, also known as Jennifer Dewitt, 39, on Friday with two felony counts of assisting a criminal.

Authorities said that in August, Sauer drove Joshua Calhoun, who was suspected of child molesting, to Allen County police headquarters for a polygraph test.

Before the test was administered, he told detectives he wanted to speak to his lawyer one more time and left the building.

After he left, officers were told a warrant for his arrest on child molesting charges was active, according to court documents.

Instead of taking him to his lawyer, investigators believe Sauer drove Calhoun first to Muncie to buy prepaid cellphones and then to a motel in Indianapolis.

Police called Sauer several times during this period, and she either lied to them about where she took Calhoun or did not answer the phone, according to court documents.

Later, she admitted she knew there was an arrest warrant for Calhoun and had changed details of her story several times, according to court documents.

A warrant has been issued for Sauer’s arrest, which calls for her bond to be set at $12,500.

Calhoun still faces child molesting charges.
