Records: Mad Ants (3-5), Canton (8-1)
When: 7 p.m. today; 5 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Coliseum
Fort Wayne leaders: Ron Howard (22.8 ppg), Sadiel Rojas (9.8 rpg), Howard (4 apg)
Canton leaders: Arinze Onuaku (18.1 ppg), Onuaku (9 rpg), Jorge Gutierrez (7.3 apg)
Key matchup: The 6-foot-9, 275-pound Onuaku is one of the best big men in the D-League, and the Mad Ants have had difficulty containing post players. It will be crucial for Fort Wayne’s 6-11 Chris Hunter, who is less than two weeks back from a near two-year absence because of injuries, to be effective inside. Hunter is averaging 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds. The 6-7 Chris Porter, who averages 9.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, is also going to have to have a big game for the Mad Ants.
The skinny: The Mad Ants have won back-to-back games for the first time this season – 108-100 at Delaware on Sunday and 117-115 at Iowa on Thursday – and they are looking to build off that in this home-and-home series with Canton. The Mad Ants’ Trey McKinney-Jones and Olek Czyz combined for 45 points at Iowa, after both missed last weekend’s games with injuries.
