The Mad Ants won their third straight game – a season best – with a 106-102 overtime victory in Canton, Ohio, in the first segment of a home-and-home series Saturday.
Ron Howard led Fort Wayne (4-5) with 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting from the field, and teammate Sadiel Rojas had 19 points and four steals.
In the first meeting of the regular season between the teams, Canton (8-2) led by as many as 20 in front of 2,201 fans at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
The Mad Ants began whittling away at the deficit in the third quarter, though, and a Howard jump shot with 53.8 seconds remaining in regulation time put Fort Wayne up 94-90.
But a Bo Spencer 3-pointer and a Michael Lee free throw forced overtime for the Charge.
A Trey McKinney-Jones 3-pointer with 1:04 left put Fort Wayne ahead 100-97, and the Mad Ants never looked back.
McKinney-Jones finished with 15 points.
Kevin Jones led Canton with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Spencer had 15 points.
Forward Chris Hunter was out of the Fort Wayne lineup with an undisclosed injury.
He was replaced by Alfred Aboya, the Mad Ants top pick (second round) in the last D-League draft. Aboya hadnt played yet because he had to get work visa issues resolved.
The teams meet again today at Memorial Coliseum.
