Ring in 2014 early at Lucky Moose

The New Year’s Eve party at Lucky Moose will shut the bar and grill down.

At 10 p.m.

The party, appropriately called New Year’s Eve for Wimps, is in its 30th year or so, according to owner Mark Melchi.

“We pretend it’s midnight at 10 p.m. and close the place down,” he says. “It’s worked pretty well for us.”

In addition to the champagne toast, there will be a buffet from 5 to 10 p.m. The line, which costs $14.95, will feature shrimp, ribs, pork, pecan chicken, wild salmon, beer battered catfish, coconut crusted tilapia, soup and salad bar and a dessert crepe station.

Reservations are recommended; call 490-5765. Lucky Moose is at 622 E. Dupont Road.

Other celebrations:

•The Rusty Dog Irish Pub in Huntington will offer a four-course gourmet dinner, featuring a selection of entrées such as prime rib with horseradish béarnaise, brie stuffed chicken breast, seared sea scallops with saffron beurre blanc and a vegetarian stuffed Portobello mushroom. The cost is $65 per couple and reservations are required; call 260-579-0433.

Main St. Bistro & Martini Lounge, 200 E. Main St., will have hors d’oeurves from 7 to 8 p.m., dinner at 8 p.m. and open bar from 9 p.m. to midnight. There will also be a DJ. Tickets are $125; call 420-8633.

Mad Anthony’s Brewing Co., 2002 Broadway, will have a dinner buffet, beer and wine, champagne toaster and party favors on Tuesday. Festivities begin at 9 p.m., and advance tickets are $30. Call 426-2537.

Hobby shop meets bar

Near Wrigley Field on East State Boulevard, a 1,600-square-foot space is going to bring together an unlikely match: a hobby shop and bar.

Hearthstone Guild, 6511 E. State Blvd., will be a place where game players can come, enjoy friendly competition and have a cold brew, owner Rick Vaz says. The shop will be split evenly between card games, such as Magic the Gathering, and board games, like Tsuro.

A menu will feature sandwiches, soups and soda. Vaz says the menu will be limited at first but will expand as business grows.

He hopes to open Feb. 1.
