So, one of our excuses is that we are short players the last couple of nights.....then why wasn't someone called up? Even if it's just a couple of warm bodies that could skate a couple shifts a period to give the regulars a breather.....doesn't seem like rocket science. Let's go back to a game early in the season when the K's had just blown another lead and GG called a time out and gave the team a tongue lashing. Nothing changed after that. I said then, that there was something wrong in the locker room. I don't think any of us had any idea how bad it was/is. When GG coached at Snider he was let go/not brought back at the end of the 2006 season not because of his wins/lose record but because he had alienated alot of the players and even more of the parents. I was the manager of the team during his tenure there. I personally never had a problem with him as the coach (our relationship and the X's & O's), but his communication skills with the kids and parents needed a lot of improvement. What I see every day from this team seems eerily reminiscent of the end of that 2006 season. Yes, I know high school hockey and the ECHL are light years apart and that was 7 years ago, but................ I like GG. I have enjoyed watching him work his way up through the ranks of hockey. When he first started at Snider I remember him telling me he wanted to coach in the NHL someday, that seemed funny while sitting in the stands at McMillen Park on a Monday night. I actually feel sorry for him this year. I believe David put him in an almost impossible situation. No asst coach, no affiliate, and an egomaniac as a GM. Not the best situation for a guy that is probably getting a chance at a job that he is awfully experienced for. I worry his reputation is going to be ruined if this current situation continues....and it may already be too late. It really is a sad situation all the way around and it really is hard to watch game after game, but I will continue to be there, like most of the rest of us.

I respect your position, but I don't feel sorry for Gary at all. Before the season we heard how great these guys were, how they were character guys and the locker room would be different. It's different, but not in a good way.
This is Gary's team. This is on him. As a leader, YOU take the blame when things don't go well, you don't shovel it off on others. He made promises before the season. Since then, he's made nothing but excuses.

I have lived in Fort Wayne my entire life. I have gone to Komet hockey games for as long as I can remember. I have always been proud to wear Komet clothing and amazed at how many people outside of Indiana are familiar with the name. I have thought our organization to be first class and have been proud of that fact. I have been pleased by the fact that so many players have expressed how well they were treated while playing here and how many have chosen to stay.
I love our fans. We are knowledgable of the game and not hesitant to speak up. We are loyal and supportive. The JUNGLE has been awesome when it is rocking! We have BEEN the hottest ticket in town.
My husband and I have been fortunate to have been able to afford season tickets for over 20 years. We have our perfect seats. We are surrounded by our hockey family, many of whom have been there as long as we have if not longer. We have always loved going to the games, watching our team play our favorite sport and sharing it with all of our friends around us. Now, I am beyond disappointed and ANGRY that we are most probably going to lose all of this because EGO is running this organization over common sense.
Not only is the JUNGLE no longer rocking, we don't have one! The Fort Wayne Komets used to be an organization everyone wanted to come and play for. Now players quit and refuse to report. The Fort Wayne Komets used to be held in high regard. Now we are the joke of the ECHL. Quite an accomplishment in less than two years time!
I am pretty sure the players playing here no longer feel valued or appreciated. Do most of them wonder day to day if they will still have a job here tomorrow or do they pray that they can get out of this disaster ASAP? Hard to have team unity and a solid line when you never know what new player you will be playing next to each game...or who will be benched for some unknown reason while you skate extra shifts.
The fans that the Frankes have always complimented as being the best and the smartest are now all of a sudden dumb as rocks because we don't agree with the way they are running the team or believe the SPIN they are putting on everything. It feels like the STH's and fans care more about this team and turning it around than management does.
David's answer is a revolving door of players because it is all THEIR fault. How stupid do you think your fans are? You have replaced half of the team, THAT YOU HAND PICKED and we still have the same problems. What does that say about you, David?? Let's say all the players who have left the team really were the problem. Who chose, went after and recruited all of them?? If that is not a clue that we have a GM that is in way over his head then I don't know what does. Gee, do you think MAYBE the problem could lie somewhere besides with the players?? Any chance at ALL that there MIGHT be a coaching issue? Any chance at ALL that our GM is in WAY over his head and needs help, or to be REPLACED?? Interesting how your loyal fans can see this and yet the Komet management EGOS are willing to completely destroy a tried and true hometown icon before they will admit they are wrong and need help. I truly believe that if Gary and David are not replaced ASAP the Frankes are going to lose everything. They have already lost the respect of their fans and attendance continues to drop...unless of course you believe the attendance numbers they announce. Can this year be saved? Probably not, but changes that can start truly turning things around can be made. Time to see who the Frankes value the most...the team, Komet name and their fans, or themselves. Time to see if management has finally reached their bottom...or do Auger, Marino and Fleming also have to leave for you to get it?? What league will we try next??
We are on the verge of losing everything we have invested 20+ years worth of money into because of inflated egos. Once we are gone, we are gone. We will not be coming back to be reminded of how good it used to be and what we lost. I know I literally speak for hundreds if not more STH's. We've tried it your way. Now how about listening to all the people who have lined your pockets with money over the years. Just maybe all those fans that you used to think were so intelligent really are. At this point in time what do you have to lose? Oh yea, EVERYTHING!
P.S. In my opinion Brian Gratz is not the answer.
P.S.S. I think a good place to start changing things around would be a phone call to Colin Chaulk apologizing for treating him with total disrespect after all that he did for the Komet organization.

People with-in the Komets organization do read Ice Chips. When I ordered some Komets swag over the phone, they recognized my name. Those are some real nice folks there at Komet Kuarters.
I thought I read something on Ice Chips about Bob Chase saying it was the bloggers fault that the Komets are struggling, can someone explain what that's about?
In my 39 years of following the Komets, I have never seen them in such disarray, I hope something is done soon, the multiple roster changes don't seem to be doing the trick.

Great post Komet K!! You hit the nail on the head! Very well said! Covered every bit of what I believe myself. Bravo!

Look on the bright side, Toledo is the next opponent. They are a mess too. That hour skate after losing 7-0 at home to South Carolina didn't seem to help any.

Looks like Rutherford got the "telegraham"(as in our coach) and wont be reporting to the Komets.

Komet K, you have expressed every single thing that I and all my "hockey family" have been saying, too! Beautifully done and I could feel the emotion and sadness in every word. Please, someone in the Komet management team, listen to us...we used to bleed orange and black...now we are just plain bleeding and it hurts. We can still be a proud franchise again but not with egos running wild and everyone from players to fans divided and fed- up!

I can't wait for Sunday to see if the Franke's are as classy as I hope they are. We will see if they even acknowledge the fact that a guy that won 5 of there 6 championships is even in the building. They didn't acknowledge him in the primer they released on the website today, so I am guessing yet again the Franke's will service themselves and ignore the obvious.
See ya tomorrow night in section 213.

So the leading goal scorer in the ECHL is traded away for someone who has been suspended by the team and heading to the CHL.
Well played boys, well played...

Says a lot that players would rather go to an unstable league than an unstable locker room.

Komet K, I would like to tell you that you wrote the BEST post of the year! I would like to shake you and your husband's hands and thank you for being the Komet fans you have been over the years. I'm in Upper Sec 216, Row 18, Seats 14 and 13. That's me and my fiance's season ticket holder seats.

A friend of mine just tossed out a scenario. What if instead of fixing everything that is wrong, the Franke's decided that they had enough with the hockey world and pulled the plug on the Komet organization and contracted. This is an option as their Midwest Glove business is their primary money maker, NOT the Komets.
It would be a very sad day for Fort Wayne and I could only hope somebody would swoop in and buy the rights.

That was perfect.
Let's hope bob chase read that too and will stop with the attacks on the radio calling fans and bloggers idiots and threatening to give out their phone numbers so people can beat them up.
Let's all hope that this message is heard. What you wrote basically summarizes the feelings that us fans have been sharing here over the past years, and the past 2 seasons in particular.
Ego. Perfectly described. It shows this season. I will hire my guy, my captain, to heck with affiliations, my way, I am smarter, everyone else is stupid. And when things sour, then, and only then, will I play the fans favorite goal songs.
It is a joke.
Thanks again Komet k. I thumbs up you.

Hey I love that goal song.
Except we were cheering "Hey we suck" at the second goal. Only took 6 players vs 3 to score it. with no time left to make a hoot.

Thanks Komet K!! That was a great post and true to point.
I didnt hear anything about Bob Chase saying those things but if he did, he may lose his reputation here as well.

Komet K you nailed it! Thank You and let's hope that the dump the team theory from another blogger is not true. I must say that possibly has crossed my mind as well.
Watch out for Toledo tomorrow with the additions to their roster they will be better than last Friday.
