I-69 crash kills woman

A woman trapped inside a van on Interstate 69 Monday afternoon died later that night at a Fort Wayne hospital, Steuben County officials said.

Jane C. Legaj, 63, of Marysville, Mich., died of her injuries about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.

Shortly after 1:45 p.m., Steuben County Communications received several 911 calls about a vehicle that hit a guardrail near the 354.7-mile marker. Deputies arrived to find a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country van in the east ditch line.

The sheriff's department said Legaj was trapped inside for about 65 minutes and that I-69 northbound traffic was stopped during that time.

She was flown to the Fort Wayne hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
