Firefighter falls through floor in house fire on north side

A Fort Wayne firefighter fell through the floor Monday morning while fighting a blaze at a house on the city’s north side.

Crews were called to a two-story house at 10722 Windsor Woods Blvd. about 9:13 a.m. after neighbors called about smoke coming from the eaves, according to a release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the basement, first and second floors of house. No one was in the home at the time of the blaze.

Efforts to control the fire were hampered by a large amount of storage boxes and personal belongings stacked throughout the home, the release said.

During the fire, a firefighter fell through the floor, but was evaluated at the scene and quickly returned to service.

The fire was brought under control at 10:44 a.m. The house sustained heavy fire, water and smoke damage, according to the release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
