Notre Dame women win ACC debut

SOUTH BEND – Natalie Achonwa had 15 points and 13 rebounds to help No. 2 Notre Dame beat Clemson 71-51 in the Irish’s ACC debut.

Jewell Loyd scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half, including a three-point play and a 3-pointer in a 17-4 Irish run after halftime to take control.

Kayla McBride added 16 points for the Irish (13-0, 1-0), who overcame a poor first half shooting the ball to extend their regular-season winning streak to 36 games, and home winning streak to 19. Kelly Gramlich led Clemson with 13 points. The Tigers (8-7, 0-1 ACC) lost for the fourth time in their last six games after winning five straight.
