One man’s Saturday night odyssey began when he was kicked out of a hospital for smoking in the bathroom.
It continued with accusations of battery to a security officer and accusations of stealing tank tops from a gas station.
If finally concluded with officers finding him at a local tavern and a trip to Allen County Jail.
The man, identified in Fort Wayne Police reports as William Wolfendale, was booked into Allen County Lockup on preliminary charges of felony robbery and misdemeanor battery.
Police were first called about Wolfendale after he was caught smoking with another man in a St. Joseph Hospital bathroom.
A security officer at the hospital told Wolfendale to leave and said Wolfendale displayed a fixed-blade knife about 6 to 8 inches long.
While escorting Wolfendale to the door, the police report said, he turned and punched the security officer.
Police were soon called to the BP gas station at 1923 Broadway in reference to a man with a knife.
Officers were told that Wolfendale, who had been banned from the gas station Friday night for causing trouble, was there with the knife.
He’s accused of stealing three or four tank tops from the gas station and then threatening the store owner with a knife before running off, according to the police reports.
Emergency dispatchers soon received a call that a man matching Wolfendale’s description was at Mad Anthony’s Brewing Co., across the street from the gas station on Broadway.
An officer caught a glimpse of Wolfendale through the bar’s window.
He approached Wolfendale and then surprised him from behind by cuffing his hands behind his back, the reports said.
