Man accused in Okla. bomb plot found competent
The Associated Press
Prosecutors accused Gregory Weiler II of Elk Grove Village, Ill., of plotting to bomb 48 churches in Ottawa County, though no one was injured and no explosives were set off. Weiler was found mentally incompetent last April and was committed to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
U.S. Magistrate Paul Cleary ruled this week that Weiler is now competent to stand trial. Weiler's attorney, Stephen Greubel, told the Tulsa World ( http://bit.ly/1bRBF1W) that Weiler was restored to competence through medication.
Weiler has pleaded not guilty to one count of possessing an unregistered, destructive device. In a court filing Wednesday, Weiler requested his trial be before a judge, rather than a jury.
