    ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Miss New York Kira Kazantsev was named the new Miss America Sunday night, marking the third year in a row that a contestant from her state has walked away with the crown in the nationally televised pageant.
  • Make the Emmys ‘one-and-done’
    There was something embarrassing about the rash of repeat treating on Monday’s Emmycast. It might have left viewers wondering if they had stumbled on a rerun of last year’s show, or the one before that.
  • Not a good night for movies stars at Emmys
    The Emmys welcomed plenty of movie stars to television’s biggest awards show, including Julia Roberts, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Spacey, Mark Ruffalo and the reigning Oscar winner for best actor, Matthew McConaughey.

Costumers make film nominations

The Costume Designers Guild announced its roster of film nominees on Wednesday.

The costumers group has three film categories:

Contemporary film: Suzy Benzinger, “Blue Jasmine”; Casey Storm, “Her”; Wendy Chuck, “Nebraska”; Consolata Boyle, “Philomena”; Sarah Edwards, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Period film: Patricia Norris, “12 Years a Slave”; Michael Wilkinson, “American Hustle”; Kurt & Bart, “Dallas Buyers Club”; Catherine Martin, “The Great Gatsby”; Daniel Orlandi, “Saving Mr. Banks”

Fantasy film: Ann Maskrey, Richard Taylor and Bob Buck, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”; Trish Summerville, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”; Gary Jones and Michael Kutsche, “Oz: The Great and Powerful”

Movie producer Judd Apatow will receive the costumers’ Distinguished Collaborator Award.

The group’s 16th annual awards – which include television and commercial categories – will be handed out Feb. 22.
