Notre Dame loses defensive end commit

Notre Dame lost a commitment from its 2014 recruiting class Thursday.

Matt Dickerson, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end from Juniperro Serra in San Mateo, Calif., decided to switch his pledge to UCLA, according to 247Sports.

Dickerson is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.com.

He could have been in line to play right away at Notre Dame after the defensive line has been thinned by recent departures.

Stephon Tuitt and Louis Nix III both decided to enter the NFL draft instead of returning for their final year of eligibility, and the Irish lose swingman Kona Schwenke to graduation.

The Irish have three defensive ends remaining in their recruiting class in Grant Blakenship, Justin Bonner and Andrew Trumbetti along with four-star defensive tackle Jay Hayes.

Notre Dame now has 22 members in its 2014 recruiting class, a group that includes Carroll linebacker Drue Tranquill.
