Mastodons lead at half

One half in the books at the Gates Center, and IPFW leads South Dakota State 44-42.

As they did Thursday night, the Mastodons started fast and hung tight to teach halftime with a lead. After South Dakota State hit its first two shots to go up 5-0, the Jackrabbits made just one field across the next 8:34 and the Mastodons went on a 17-4 run to gain their biggest lead of the half, 17-9, at the 13-minute mark.

But the Jackrabbits found refuge at the free-throw line, where they were 15 of 18 in the first half, and finally caught the Mastodons at 42-42 on Brayden Carlson's 3-pointer with 1:17 showing. Luis Jacobo's driving layup with 23.8 seconds sent IPFW off with the lead.
