Big names in building

At the end of the first period at Memorial Coliseum, the Komets and Kalamazoo Wings are scoreless.

Ben Meisner has made 11 saves for Fort Wayne, while playing his third game in as many nights.

Jordan Binnington has 14 stops for the Wings.

The best chance of the period came from Fort Wayne's Kenton Miller, but Binnington made the save sliding to his left.

Former Komets coach Dave Allison is here.

He is an assistant coach with the AHL's Chicago Wolves, who like the Wings are a minor-league affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.

Former NHL goalie Ty Conklin, who is the Blues' goaltending development coach, is also in attendance.

By the way, former Komets assistant coach Claude Noel, was fired as head coach of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets.

Justin A. Cohn, pro sports coordinator for The Journal Gazette, has been covering the Fort Wayne Komets since 1997.
