Homestead claims swimming crowns

Homestead and Carroll battled for the top spot at the NHC Swim and Dive Championships at Summit Middle School on Saturday. In the end, the Spartans claimed both titles over the Chargers, winning the boys crown 520-508 and girls title 549-512.

Carroll’s Jackson Kent and Courtney Kresl were double-event winners; Kent in the 200-yard individual medley and 500 freestyle, and Kresl in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Both swimmers earned first-team all-conference honors.

The Norwell boys finished third followed by Columbia City, DeKalb, Bellmont and East Noble. The Bellmont girls finished third followed by Columbia City and East Noble tied for fourth, Norwell and DeKalb.

Boys basketball

BOWMAN ACADEMY 73, NORTHROP 62: At Northrop, Davon Dillard scored 24 for the Eagles (10-2). Jajuan Starks scored 20 to lead the Bruins (4-7).

HOMESTEAD 55, EAST NOBLE 28: At Homestead, Caleb Swanigan scored 12 points to lead the Spartans (9-3, 2-0 NHC) over the Knights (0-9, 0-2)

LEO 101, SOUTH ADAMS 65: At Leo, Adam Davison and David Hardin each scored 20 and Bryce Beer had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Lions (6-3, 2-1 ACAC). Derek Wanner scored 16 for the Starfires (2-8, 1-2).

NEW HAVEN 55, DEKALB 32: At DeKalb, Steve McElvene scored 19 for the Bulldogs (6-2, 2-0 NHC). Cole Hartman scored 17 for the Barons (3-9, 0-2).

SOUTH BEND ADAMS 111, CANTERBURY 61: At Canterbury, Terry Davis scored 34 for the Eagles (8-4). Grant Sinn scored 19 and Andrew Kus added 15 for the Cavaliers (2-4).

ADAMS CENTRAL 47, GARRETT 40: At Adams Central, Blade Kable scored 19 to lead the Flying Jets (4-4, 2-1 ACAC).

Matt Singleton scored 13 for the Railroaders (6-2, 2-1).

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 60, CONCORDIA 59: At Concordia, Joey Morlan scored 22 to lead the Braves (6-5).

D.J. McCall scored 22 and Reggie Tharp added 19 for the Cadets (4-6).

Girls basketball

HOMESTEAD 75, CARMEL 59: At Homestead, Karissa McLaughlin scored 24 and Josie Fisher added 19 to lead the Spartans (12-1) over the Greyhounds (6-7).

SOUTH ADAMS 51, SOUTHERN WELLS 48: At Southern Wells, Sydney Willis scored 19 and Dzejna Ahmetovic added 18 for the Starfires (11-3, 2-3 ACAC).

Lela Knowles and Brooke Penrod led the Raiders (6-6, 2-3) with 13 each.

DEKALB 72, NEW HAVEN 26: At DeKalb, Hayley Martin scored 22 points, Baylee Rinehart scored 17 and Skyler Ostrowski added 16 for the Barons (10-3, 4-0 NHC).

Rachael Drew’s six points led the Bulldogs (6-8, 1-3).

FAIRFIELD 63, EASTSIDE 45: At Eastside, Brooke Mast scored 16, Jenna Kiper had 14 and Haley Brown added 10 for the Falcons (8-2, 6-0 NECC).

Bri Moore and Maddy Minehart each scored 16 for the Blazers (2-10, 0-6).

WARSAW 30, NORTHRIDGE 28: At Warsaw, Eryn Leek scored nine to lead the Tigers (6-7, 1-2 NLC). Taylor Miller scored 10 for the Raiders (10-4, 2-1).
