Notre Dame guard Kayla McBride and former Irish guard Skylar Diggins are among the 33 players to be named to the the U.S. women's basketball national team pool.
The players from the pool will be choosen to play for the national teams for the the 2014 world championship and 2016 Olympic.
"Being part of this group means so much," McBride said in a statement from Notre Dame."It's something you always think about, the opportunity to play with the best of the best, players like Candace Parker, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings and so many others. To have had the chance to practice at the USA Basketball mini-camp was a blessing all to itself, but to be included with them as part of this player pool is humbling. It also motivates you to work even harder with the eye on potentially reaching that goal one day soon."
McBride and Diggins will try to become the first Notre Dame players to play for U.S. women's national team since Ruth Riley helped lead the Americans to a gold medal at the Athens Olympics.
