Patrol seizes $50,000 in drugs after traffic stop

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized nearly $50,000 worth of prescription pills and liquid codeine following a traffic stop in Lima on Saturday.

In a statement, the patrol said troopers stopped a rented car with Ohio plates Saturday morning because of a speed violation on Interstate 75.

Criminal indicators were observed and a Lima police canine alerted to the vehicle, police said. They said a search found 4,654 Hydrocodone pills, 300 Oxycontin pills, 446 Zanax pills, 51 ounces of liquid codeine and a small amount of heroin.

The car's driver, LaKeith Lewis, 44, of Oak Park, Mich., was held in the Allen County (Ohio) Jail on charges of possession of heroin and three counts each of possession and trafficking in Schedule II, Schedule III and Schedule IV substances.
