Coats: Responsible reforms needed for intelligence community

Sen. Dan Coats, R-Ind., a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, today made the following statement about President Barack Obama’s speech on intelligence reforms:

“It is good for the security of our country that the president reaffirmed the important role of the intelligence community in our efforts to protect and defend Americans from another terrorist attack. The president indicated that he would work with Congress on a number of reforms to our intelligence programs, and I will hold him to that.

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I will continue to work with my colleagues on responsible reforms that ensure we are doing everything we can to protect Americans and the privacy rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution.”
