I have been saying all year that there is something wrong with this team. With all the turnover I believe mgmt agreed with me and have said as much. They tell us that everything is better now. So the third worst team comes to town to play the sixth worst team and the k's are basically a no show again. I wrote between periods that how they come out and play the third will tell us all we need to know about this team. So, I'll continue to say it, there is something wrong with this team. That light at the end of the tunnel you thought you saw last week is a freight train with the February schedule in it. If they cant beat Elmira then God help us when we get a full dose of the really good teams in this league. The only constant on this team is the leadership and they all seem oblivious to what is so obvious to most of us. A coach once said "you are what your record says you are". Well, the K's are the sixth worst team in this league, they are currently out of the playoffs, they are mentally weak, they have one good line, and are so soft they could star in a toilet paper commercial! Actually, they're crappy play could be the other half of the same commercial! And Hit, Vask's apparent "up yours" goal scoring gesture to the GF's section was interesting. I would have thought that would have went Gary's way. It would be interesting to know the behind story on that....or maybe it was just a coincidence. I do think it is interesting that people give him a hard time for quitting when I bet everyone has quit a job they hated. Somehow we expect athletes to be different than the rest of us and show some special locality to a city they do not live in and probably ever heard of before coming here. Just because we love this team and are loyal does not mean that 99% of the rest of the world gives a hoot. It's a job, a pay check, a stepping stone to a bigger and better opportunity, that's all it is to most of these guys, especially in the echl...I suppose that's part of the allure of GG and Schrock....they have been and are going no where.....let the thumbs down start.

Don't mean to copy and paste, but I spent a lot of time thinking and posting on another blog, and feel the need to just vent to everyone that I've read comments from this and previous years.
I'm sorry, but there was not 7200 people there last night. I understand the number represents the tickets sold vs what went thru the entrance, however there is no way that it was even close to that number. Look, I'm not a regular poster because I just like to read and stay informed about the team I've been entertained by going to see for over 4 decades. I don't consider myself one to get overly negative about a team or season because they don't do well. I have always loved the sport and what the Komets have done over the many years is something that my family and I have grown up enjoying. Don't think I look thru orange tinted glasses, but I would like to believe that I'll always be part of the people that just likes going to games and be entertained. I would consider myself an average joe type of fan, not in the minority that "knows it all and what needs to be done to fix things" but not the the minority that occasionally goes to a game and doesn't really follow the Komets. In my younger years I always dreamed of having season tickets, not because the Komets had a winning record but because I loved watching hockey live and cheering for the my local team. I had fun!
All of that being said, I feel like this team, management, and players have let me down for the entertainment of it all. Mismanagement, player defections, qualify of players, lack of quality off ice entertainment, ticket prices and the never ending spins of everything including inflated attendance mentioned above has left a sour taste in not only my mouth, but those of my kids. When they begin to notice skaters not skating, not shooting the puck or keeping a body on an opponent I think that speaks volumes. Regardless of the team dynamics, I expect and believe we should be entertained, win lose or draw, at some level, but WE are not. I don't know how much more I can afford to spend to just sit in the stands for over two hours to walk away after feeling like I just spent money and time for my family to come away feeling like we were bored. I love hockey, will always be a fan of Komets hockey, and will not be the type of person to use this forum to bash specific players, but unless the product that is being put out is consistent and entertaining I cannot justify the expense and my time dedicated to seeing them to look as if they are not interested in playing or being coached. I hope someone reads this and sees that I am part of the majority that goes to games (reference to great sit down with Auger) and takes my thoughts to heart when looking at the entertainment product for next year. I'm sorry as I'll continue to read about the team and hope for a turnaround for the sake of Komets hockey in general, but I cannot pay any more this year to not be entertained. If I need to sit in a seat for two hours I'll take the family to a movie where I know I'll at least be entertained and it will be cheaper. And before I read a post about cheap seats in the nose bleed, you try keeping the attention of pre-teens for two hours when they cannot make out where the puck is from that height.
Sorry for the rant, but I don't seem to read too much from people like me and felt the need to vent. Thanks for that opportunity!

For those of you who may remember Jason Baird, he played a number of years in the CHL. He signed with Muskegon during the summer of 2008 and suffered 3rd degree burns in a lawn mowing accident over 70% of his body, which ended his career.
Friday morning he past away from complications of pancreatitis. He was 33 years old. The hockey world is small place, thoughts to his family and friends.

Vasky's still an alright guy.

Vasky's a quitter. I don't mind that he wanted a trade, but to quit the way he did showed a lack of character.

I've got this invoice laying on my kitchen table. It's a notice that my 2014 playoff tickets (at least the first six games) are due. It indicates that the bill is due on February 20th.
I looked at it this morning and chuckled.
What in the world, I asked myself, makes the Fort Wayne Komet manangement even think they will qualify for the playoffs?
Does anyone remember "good ole' Komet hockey"? Remember "it's not just hockey-it's KOMET hockey!"? Remember "Komet hockey-the hottest ticket in town"?
The first slogan left when, wiser people than I, decided terse, hard hitting, and blue collar hockey was just too out of vogue. The second slogan fled when after changing leagues more often than some change their underwear, no one could recognize Komet hockey from any other brand or franchise. The third slogan sits quietly in the upper arena or down by the ice or wherever it chooses to (it has plenty of room) while whimpering to itself and recalling days of yore with crowd noise and excitement, sometimes disappointment, but always the promise of the next game, the next large crowd.
If you like being frustrated, this is the team for you! The season was born of promise, quickly tore itself apart, and now has no identity, no apparent plan, very slim on talent, little leadership, and has lost its way.
It doesn't have to be that way. Sometimes they actually tease you in thinking that the trouble is gone and better days lay ahead. Trouble is they've done that so often this season that I am now numb to it. As they say in Missouri, "show me". But I remember the only thing in Missouri is the CHL (I liked the CHL).
Lose AT HOME to the second worst team in the league? Effort being called out by players, coach, when they don't have another game for SEVEN DAYS?
The team has four forwards who are just plain and simply, offensively challenged. TWO of them SCORE and the team still manages to LOSE? Holy crap!
I look at it this afternoon and it wants to make me cry.

Elmira received two forwards from Albany of the AHL today. So next week when the Ks visit Elmira the Jackals should have two reinforcements added to the lineup. How many new faces will be in Ks uniforms? The answer is most likely zero. Unless GM Franke can get a good deal on a couple of SPHL beer leaguers.

Of course you liked the CHL. A league, where in 2 years, the Komets won. It would be a shame to spend a few years battling through growning pains, only to give all you superfans what you wanted. ECHL hockey. More competitive league, with better players. You have that, and now you don't get to enjoy a parade every year.
I realize it's tough to understand, but at some time, you have to pick what you want. A champion every year in the IHL2, or a team that competes against 22 other teams to earn championships. Growing pains will happen, but I'd rather see a championship earned in a league in 10 years, rather then one bought in a 6 team league. Rough year, yes, but all those whining will be back next year. What else will you have to be negative about?

The ECHL has not been a fun league to watch. Not looking for a championship every couple years.Just looking for a league with more stable roster and not this boring ECHL.
This league is not about winning. It is just a place for the AHL to store extra players.

I'm glad to read the comment from Jerad Shaw. As I said in a previous post, I actually appreciate those posts that do not agree with me. It makes me exercise the thought process.
After reading Mr. Shaw's post, and then picking over his points, I still contend that my original post is correct.
He calls me a "superfan" (I don't think it was meant in an endearing way, do you?). Truth is that I've seen every home game this season but one. I've kept up on all the ins and outs...and since when is being a fan, let alone a "superfan" a bad thing?
His mistaken premise that I liked the CHL was because the Komets won a league title in two years is just patently false. How does he know the reasons I liked the CHL? Why would he have that presumption anyway? He doesn't know me. He doesn't have any idea why I feel the way I do. So DON'T put words in my mouth. Actually to those who I know and talk hockey with, also those who sit in my area, I have been pretty consistent in my praise of the CHL and its brand of hockey!!
It took seven years between Turner Cups before the '72-'73 season. It took another twenty years to achieve the next one. I was there all that time as a "superfan", so don't even presume to tell me my likes, dislikes, and the gall to think you can give me the reasons why.
As for the "whining", well all that would end if they'd just get the "h" out. That would turn the w(h)ining into winning.
Someone let the Franke's know that we'll all be back. Mr Shaw said so. A very nice couple have seats right in front of mine. They are a nice, quiet couple, and except for some small talk, really didn't know them very well. During the Elmira game a conversation developed and I found out they were twelve year season ticket holders. They decided to move from their old location this year. They contend that this is their last year. That the "place just isn't the same anymore". (Note to Scott Sproat: Better wake up, Mr. Sproat)! I wish Mr. Shaw would've been there to challenge them and tell them to stop their whining.
It's happening all over the place. Look at the stands, the general boredom of the fans, and the lack of home game success.
There are plenty of things to be negative about, Mr. Shaw. One of the reasons I attend Komet games is to flee from the world of its problems and "negativity". I don't expect to win every game, a championship every year. I expect a competitive team, played by people who care and give effort, managed by people who do all in their power to provide the talent to compete with those other "22" teams.
I haven't seen it this year...and as the attendance plummets, it seems that many others haven't also.
Oh yes, that invoice? It's still on my kitchen table.
I wish the Komets had the brains to do this vs. "musky" a few years ago. Shaf would not of got the beatdown.

Guys and Gals, I have watched several games outside of Fort Wayne and the games are MUCH better... What Fort Wayne fans are getting "treated" to is NOT the norm in the ECHL...
I'm not talking gong show stuff either... No one has asked for that here. Just hitting, grinding, accountability, team hockey. I've seen that in at least 8 of the 10 games I have watched (4 western conf. & 6 eastern conf.)...
The smoke screen they are trying to deploy in the media this season saying this is just how hockey is in the ECHL is hogwash...

Hit that was not an attack. I actually totally agree with Jerad shaw. I love being in the E. Love watching more competetive hockey. Also the fact that we could see future nhl players much more exciting!
Do i think that we completely play E style hockey yet, no. I believe we probably hit the least in the league although i havent seen all the teams.
I also think that over the past couple games we have been hitting more. Pepin really was going after vask in the first period and we have been playing more chippy.
This is not echl hockey tho. I was in florida for spring break last year and watched a playoff game between the everblades and elmira and it was fast hard hitting exciting hockey so them saying this is how it is, is bull!

JR you are totally right lol, I watched about 7 minutes of every game that was on American one last just to see if what they were saying was true. Well what I seen was a lot of hitting, checking, and wait for it!! ( guys sticking up for one another) and also the dropping of the gloves!! Every game was just the opposite of what we are being told and seeing here on the ice. I have an aweful gut feeling that if changes are not made right away, our Komets have no chance at all making the playoffs with this style and type of play. Lets Go Komets

Jerad has seen 2-3 games maybe (admitted this himself) this season?
He's not sitting thru game after game of this boring, awful mess of a team right now... So calling everyone whiners is preposterous...
No one is asking for championships every season... Most intelligent fans knew it would probably take 1-2 seasons to break things in... Most fans just want a hard working, physical hockey club they can be proud of...right now, we've been given about 8-10 players that fit in this league, some other guys who should be playing in the CHL or SPHL, one player with a huge sense of entitlement and a coach who's in over his head (at this point in his career)...
Bottom line is the fans just want what management said they would get this past off season... These are expectations that THEY gave us...

Don't get me wrong, everyone. I liked the CHL as a competitive league, a league with more teams to compete with, their style of play being similar to the IHL's (whichever version you choose to insert).
I would contend that the main reason for the switch to the ECHL was for a reason of stability. The CHL is made up from a number of weak franchises, it includes some monstrous road trips as the franchises are spaced so far apart, and the lawsuit that threatened(s) the league itself.
Now what I'm going to print is only my opinion. I have no fact to back this feeling but I feel it is worth mentioning.
This is primarily directed at the Eastern Conference (as the Western Conference kind of adheres to it already, I think).
I would like to see the ECHL develop a "balanced" schedule. One where each team plays the same number of games against their division foes home and away. I would like to see each division play against one other division (playing the same number of games home and away). Every other year the division opponents would rotate. (Ex. 2015 North vs Atlantic, 2016 North vs South). (Kind of, but not exactly the schedule the NFL deploys).
I would like to see the ECHL do everything possible to ensure that each division contains at least 4 teams. Winning a division title should be considered an "equal" accomplishment. I would submit that a division with three teams is easier to win than a division (or two divisions) with five teams. (That isn't always going to be true, I know, but I think for the purpose of discussion, it would be more times than not).
Affiliation or not? Well I think that is entirely up to the owners. If you go through the standings, it is easy to pick out the teams who are doing great. Yet there are some affiliated teams not doing too well. Personally, I see Utah (picking on them because they are the Anaheim affiliate) doing OK, but not that much better than the K's. It's an interesting comparison as we view the history of the last two years of Anaheim and the ECHL. By the way, Anaheim 37-9-5 is doing great but their success isn't translating back too much to Utah.
If you could change the ECHL, what would you suggest? The one thing to always keep in mind is that the Komets JOINED the ECHL, the ECHL didn't join them.
Posted by Alan (802 posts) at 11:00 am Sunday
Mr. Shaw, I do not think anyone on this blog expects the K's to win a championship every year. I would be ok with every 10 years +/-. I am sure that many are even ok with not making the playoffs some years, however I speaking for myself do not care to watch this soft, non-hitting, non-sticking up for teammates, in it for themselves, style of hockey. I am in it for a whole lot more than that if I am spending my money on watching a hockey game. I expect to be entertained. Have you noticed how quiet the "Jungle" is now of days? We used to lose games and the jungle would still be a rockin' I went to the game Friday night and we lost...big deal. The problem was that I swore I was in the library for two and half hours. Majority of the games I have been to this season have been this way. If you like that that is fine, however some of us do not except it and that is fine too. If you were not the minority that feels the way that you do, then I think the jungle would be a much louder and exciting place don't you think?

The lack of hitting and sticking up for teammates is not an ECHL problem, it's a Komets problem.
Posted by Long_Time_ECHL_Fan (58 posts) at 12:16 pm Sunday
I totally agree with that Long_Time. I was simply stating what I am tired of spending money to watch. I do not see it as an ECHL problem. I watch other teams hit us all of the time while we do nothing.

Watching the hawks and bruins game....toews breaks his stick throws upper half back which went into the crowd...he only got a 10 min misconduct???

This years player signings seems eerily familiar to obamacare doesn't it? Nancy Pelosi said we need to sign it then we'll read it. Our GM signed the players then hoped that they were what they wanted. At least that is what it appears to me since they have gotten rid of about half the team! A GM or manager in most companies with type of failure rate would most certainly be fired! Not here, he and GG hide behind the locker room cancer bit even though these players all seem to be fine on their new teams.. huh!

Wouldn't it be crazy if while playing in the Jungle, if you missed a point blank shot on goal you actually got bit by a snake?
What should happen if a player skates the puck like a wildman into the corner to just turn it over.
Things that make you bobble your head....
