Ex-Irish cornerback to Miami (Ohio)

– Former Notre Dame cornerback Lo Wood will join former Irish offensive coordinator Chuck Martin at Miami (Ohio), according to multiple reports Thursday.

Wood is the third former Irish player to take advantage of the graduate student transfer rule, which allows a player who already has his degree to transfer and not sit out a season, to join Martin’s first RedHawks team. Former Notre Dame quarterback Andrew Hendrix and tight end Alex Welch also transferred to Miami, which hired Martin on Dec. 3.

Wood had been granted his release from Notre Dame more than a month ago. Wood, who missed the 2012 season after an Achilles injury in fall camp, returned this season but slid down the Irish’s depth chart.

The 5-foot-11, 194-pounder played in 31 games, recording nine tackles with 1 1/2 for loss.

Martin was the Irish’s defensive backs coach and then safeties coach in 2010 and 2011 before moving to offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

2 decide to leave IU

Quarterback Cam Coffman and linebacker Jordan Wallace are transferring from Indiana.

Coffman came to Indiana as a junior college recruit and became the starter in 2012 after Tre Roberson was injured. Coffman threw for 2,734 yards with 15 TDs and 11 interceptions but found himself third on the depth chart behind Roberson and Nate Sudfeld in 2013. Coach Kevin Wilson said in a video posted on the Hoosiers’ website that he is trying to help Coffman find a new school where he can get more playing time.

Wallace, a 6-foot, 234-pound linebacker, did not play last season after getting a medical redshirt in 2012. He is expected to land at Indiana State, a Football Championship Subdivision school and will not have to sit out.
