Balanced Mad Ants roll to big road win

The Mad Ants put seven players in double figures to pick up a 116-98 win over the BayHawks in Erie, Pa., on Thursday.

Fort Wayne was led by Tony Mitchell’s 23 points. Also, Trey McKinney-Jones had 17, Ron Howard 15, Ramon Harris and Sadiel Rojas 14, Chris Porter 12 and Darnell Lazare 11.

The Mad Ants (12-8) have won five of their last six games to move within a half game of first-place Canton (12-7).

They started quickly with a 33-21 advantage after the first quarter and finished well with a 31-26 advantage in the fourth.

The offense has been in high gear as Fort Wayne was coming off a 124-121 win over Iowa last Saturday. The Mad Ants shot 45 of 91 (49 percent) from the field, including 11 of 20 (55 percent) from the 3-point arc. Harris made 4 of 4 on 3-pointers, Mitchell 4 of 8, and McKinney-Jones was 3 for 6.

The Mad Ants were also 15 of 21 (71 percent) from the free-throw line.

Rojas had eight boards and Porter, Lazare and Mitchell added seven as Fort Wayne outrebounded Erie 44-37.

The BayHawks (6-14) had five players in double figures, led by Mustafa Shakur’s 19 points.
