Celebrations of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Monday:


The Interdenominational Ministers Alliance of Fort Wayne, Women’s Ministerial Alliance of Fort Wayne and Associated Churches of Fort Wayne & Allen County will host the 29th annual Service of Repentance and Reconciliation honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 6 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 W. Berry St.


Dr. King Unity Day Celebration: Singers, dancers, vendors, free health screening, performers; sponsored by The Martin Luther King Jr. Club; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Grand Wayne Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd.; keynote speaker, Dr. Carl B. Mack; 493-1434 or 493-0980

Huntington University : DeLois McKinley-Eldridge, a civil rights activist who participated in the 1963 demonstrations for desegregation, will speak at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day service. The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Grace College & Seminary: The community is invited to a luncheon dedicated to remembering Dr. King at 11:30 a.m. Grace College & Seminary will also host chapel from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday including speakers Dr. Peter Cha, professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Armando Lucio, a graduate from the seminary who now works with First Nations peoples.

•University of Saint Francis: The community is invited to join in creating tie blankets for Project Linus from 10 a.m. to noon in the North Gym as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.


•Ivy Tech Northeast: The college will host “Interpreting a Dream, a Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Life Center gymnasium on the north campus, 3701 Dean Drive. The event will include James Williams, a local life coach and mental health awareness speaker; Voices of Inspiration from Pilgrim Baptist Church; poetry by Teresa Vazquez Hall, the chair of Ivy Tech Northeast’s Humanities program; dance by Sam Julius, an instructor at American Style Ballroom; and more.

Jan. 30

•Manchester University: The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance and Rededication Ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in the Cordier Auditorium on the North Manchester campus. The speaker will be Theodore Ransaw, an educator and scholar on black males and black masculinity, presenting “The Perfect Moment.”

Jan. 31

Trine University: Students will speak about diversity and perform music during Trine University’s 23rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. program from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fabiani Theatre in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center. The Rev. Angela Shannon, transitional pastor at Calvary Lutheran Church, Angola, will deliver the keynote address.
