Snider boys, girls win SAC titles

Both Snider swim teams took the SAC title with ease at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium on Saturday. The Panthers’ boys defeated Bishop Dwenger by 97 points while the girls beat the Saints by 119 points.

Snider's Gabe Swardson was a double winner in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley. In the 100 fly, he broke a 15-year-old SAC record at :51.51.

Hannah Miller and Jake Mayhew of Snider were also double winners in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

For the boys, South Side finished third, followed by Concordia, North Side, Bishop Luers, Northrop and Wayne. The Concordia girls were third followed by North Side, Bishop Luers, South Side, Wayne and Northrop.

Boys basketball

HUNTINGTON NORTH 65, PERU 40: At Huntington North, Caleb Landrum scored 19 for the Vikings (7-6).

Eddie Childers led the Tigers (5-6) with 14.

CANTERBURY 92, HOWE 29: At Howe, Tommy McNabb scored 14, Andrew Kus had 12, and Jack Wojewuczki added 11 for the Cavaliers (3-6).

BISHOP LUERS 76, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 69: At Bishop Luers, Andre Grant scored 20, Tyrell Johnson had 15, Austyn Rybicki added 11 for the Knights (8-2).

Will Davidson and Wesley Davidson scored 16 each and Joey Morlan added 15 for the Braves (6-6).

Girls basketball

CONCORDIA 71, No. 2 CANTERBURY 65: At Concordia, Courtney Smith scored 24 for the Cadets (13-3). Kindell Fincher scored 30, Darby Maggard had 18 and Katherine Smith added 12 for the Cavaliers (10-3).

HOMESTEAD 57, COLUMBIA CITY 31: At Homestead, Sydney Buck scored 18 points, Grace German had 13, and Karissa McLaughlin added 12 for the Spartans (14-1, 5-0 NHC). Alyssa Hansen scored nine for the Eagles (11-6, 2-3).

Wrestling

Carroll got first-place finishes from five wrestlers to take first place as a team at Concordia’s “Wild Bill” Ihssen Invitational with 220 points.
