‘Backbone’ of K’s front office dies at age 86

– Flossie Zimmerman, who was inducted into the Komets Hall of Fame in 2004 for her work in the team’s offices, died Tuesday at 86.

She was the ticket and office manager, and executive secretary. Her 30 years of work with the team began in 1958.

“Flossie Zimmerman was part of the backbone of the Fort Wayne Komets,” team President Michael Franke said.

“Her dedication to the Komets, Fort Wayne Youth Hockey and McMillen Park/Glenbrook Square figure skating is unsurpassed and her contributions will never be forgotten.”

Zimmerman’s husband, Dick, who was a statistician, goal judge and public-address announcer, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. He died in 2010.

“I’ve known Flossie since I was a little kid and an up-and-coming Komet fan when she was the Komets’ ticket manager,” general manager David Franke said.

“The Zimmerman family are great ambassadors for the Komets and all of youth hockey in Fort Wayne.”

Flossie Zimmerman is survived by sons Robert Zimmerman, Richard Zimmerman and John Zimmerman, daughter Jacqueline Zimmerman, 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were not available as of press time.
