Mad Ants let lead slip away in fourth quarter

The Mad Ants were scrambling in the fourth quarter in a 101-100 loss to the Canton Charge on Friday in Canton, Ohio.

The Mad Ants (15-11) were outscored 31-20 in the fourth after leading 80-70 after three quarters.

The loss puts the Mad Ants two games behind the Charge (17-9) for the top spot in the D-League’s East Division. Fort Wayne is 2-2 against Canton this season.

Tony R. Mitchell scored a game-high 35 and had 10 assists for Fort Wayne. Trey McKinney-Jones, Sadiel Rojas and Darnell Lazare added 14 each.

Jorge Gutierrez led the Charge with 32 points.

Shooting was an issue for the Mad Ants. They went 36 of 79 (46 percent) from the floor, 8 of 20 (40 percent) on 3-pointers and 20 of 33 (61 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Charge shot 39 of 72 (54 percent) from the floor and 20 of 37 (54 percent) on free throws.

Before Friday’s game, the Detriot Pistons reassigned Peyton Siva and Tony Mitchell to the Mad Ants, and they are expected to be with the team for tonight’s home game against Canton.

Siva averaged 12 points and 5.8 assists in five games with the Mad Ants this season, and Mitchell averaged 6.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in six games.
