K's practice report

There was a bit of a scary moment in practice today when a slapshot from about 35 feet out ricocheted off the helmet of goaltender Andrey Makarov during a 2-on-0 drill.

He was stunned for a bit but OK. Remember, he had a concussion not long ago.

Here's what coach Gary Graham had to say during after practice:

"We're playing more consistently, with the exception of (Friday), when we gave up that (three-goal) lead (in a 4-3 overtime loss to Elmira), which was disappointing," Graham said. "But if you look at our body of work since the beginning of the year, we've been getting more consistent. We've been getting more consistent goaltending and a better effort both with and without the puck."

Asked about the additions of Jason Dale and Dean Ouellet, Graham said: "They bring a lot of character and intangibles that don't show up in the stats column. They are both guys who have worn the letters on their jerseys (as captains or alternates) in the past. … They are guys who can help out. They are both centermen and increase our depth there."

Graham credited Simon Danis-Pepin and Christian Ouellet, who played with Dean in San Francisco, for getting him to sign with Fort Wayne last week.

  • Former Komets forward Mike Vaskivuo, now with Elmira, was selected as ECHL Player of the Week. He had three goals, eight points and was plus-6 in three games.
