Explosion destroys counseling center

Natural gas leak suspected

ATTICA, Ind. – An explosion has destroyed a small building in Attica.

Mayor Robert Shepherd told WLFI-TV that he’s been told one person might have been inside the building at the time, but that injuries weren’t immediately confirmed from the Tuesday morning blast.

The station reports a natural gas leak was the suspected cause of the explosion at what was described as a counseling center.

The explosion leveled the building, with the walls collapsing and the wreckage smoldering as firefighters poured water onto it.

The Journal & Courier reported several fire departments responded to the scene in the Fountain County community about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette.
