Cavs senior gets closer to 2,000

– Senior Kindell Fincher scored 22 points in Class 2A No. 3 Canterbury’s 78-22 win over Adams Central in the quarterfinals of the Bluffton Sectional on Wednesday.

That leaves Fincher just 11 points short of scoring 2,000 points in her career.

Darby Maggard added 20 points, while Alexa Habig had 13.

The Cavaliers (15-4), who won five of the last six 1A state titles before moving up to 2A this year, will face Churubusco (9-12) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.

BISHOP DWENGER 52, NEW HAVEN 48: The Saints won a quarterfinal matchup against the Bulldogs at the 3A Garrett Sectional.

TIPPECANOE VALLEY 55, FAIRFIELD 47: Meredith Brouyette had 16 points and Cara Hoffman 15 in the Vikings’ win in the quarterfinals of the 3A NorthWood Sectional.

Tippecanoe Valley clinched the win with a 21-15 advantage in the fourth quarter.

CHURUBUSCO 36, BLUFFTON 29: Montana Martin’s 21 points helped the Eagles past the Tigers at the 2A Bluffton Sectional.

Marissa Hofstetter led Bluffton with 13 points.

HAMILTON 43, ELKHART CHRISTIAN 31: The Marines won the first half 28-13 en route to the win in the quarterfinals of the 1A Hamilton Sectional.

LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 48, HOWE 14: The Cougars blanked Howe 14-0 in the second quarter in the quarterfinal win in the 1A Hamilton Sectional.

Gymnastics

CARROLL 106.6, HOMESTEAD 99.5: The visiting Chargers went 1-2-3 in the all-around in the big win. Morgan Moehle won with a 35.15, Sydney Ulrey had a 35.00 and Delaney Garland was third in 34.90.

Hockey

FORT WAYNE LEAGUE: Leo clinched first place in the regular-season standings with a 5-4 overtime win against Carroll.

Also, Homestead beat Bishop Dwenger 5-1 and Summit City beat the FW Bruins 8-2.
