New basketball team in town

Fort Wayne will be getting a team in the Central Basketball Association, a semi-pro league with seven teams for the upcoming season.

The Fort Wayne Flite will take on the Bowling Green (Ky.) Hornets, Chattanooga (Tenn.) Rail Runners, Memphis (Tenn.) Soul Kings, Middle Tennessee Storm, River City (Ill.) Panthers and the Saint Louis Hawks.

The league hopes to add teams in 2015 in Chicago, Columbus (Ohio) and Lexington (Ky.).

An email to the league seeking information on ownership wasn't returned.

The Flite's first game is scheduled to be March 2 in Fort Wayne against River City.

Jeff Potter, president of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the D-League, which play at Memorial Coliseum, declined comment on the new team.

The Central Basketball Association has a website – www.playcba.com – and the league is designed to be a feeder system for higher levels, including the D-League.
