K’s point streak ends at 8 games

The Komets’ streak ends and the Wings’ streak continues.

Kalamazoo roared a 3-0 lead early in the second period and went on to post its sixth win in its last seven games, 5-2 in front of 5,113 fans at Wings Stadium. For the first time in nine games, the Komets (22-15-11) didn’t get a point.

Kalamazoo (28-17-4), which outshot the Komets 17-8 in the first period, took a 1-0 lead after 17:46 on a power-play goal from Nick Sirota. Yannick Veilleux scored 3:20 into the second and former Komet Matt Firman followed at 5:26.

Christian Ouellet opened the scoring for the Komets 7:25 into the second and Jordan Southorn scored on a power play at 16:40. The Komets outshot the Wings 15-12 in the second and 14-8 in the third.

Matt Caria scored on a power play 18:11 into the second, and David Pacan scored on an empty net at 19:43.

Komets goalie Andrey Makarov had 32 saves while the Wings’ Jordan Binnington had 35.

The Komets play host to Wheeling at 5 p.m. today.
