Dean Ouellet and Brandon Marino had the only goals of the overtime shootout, and the Komets defeated the Florida Everblades 4-3 in a back-and-forth game in Estero, Fla.
Goaltender Ben Meisner stopped 22 of 25 shots and all four shootout attempts he faced Friday, as the Komets (24-16-11) improved to 7-2-3 in their recent surge.
Forward Kenton Miller opened the scoring, on Fort Wayne’s second shot of the game, at 4:08 of the first period. He skated down the right boards, then fired a shot from the circle.
Florida’s Kyle Bonis answered on a power play at 11:59.
But the Komets got a power-play goal of their own at 9:44 of the second period, after a failed clearing attempt allowed defenseman Jordon Southorn to score.
Florida goaltender Trevor Cann injured himself on the play and was replaced by Connor Knapp.
Cann stopped 9 of 11 shots. Knapp turned away 14 of 15 and 1 of 3 shootout attempts for Florida (27-17-6).
Philip-Michael Devos had a game-tying short-handed goal 2:11 into the third period. It was a turnover by Fort Wayne’s Jace Coyle that led to that goal, but he atoned by scoring during a 5-on-3 power play at 17:43.
It took only 37 seconds for the Everblades to answer with a short-handed goal from Brandon MacLean.
