LaTroy Hawkins in 1993

Today's "Geez, I'm Old" Moment

So the other day I'm browsing through the Sunday New York Times, and I ran across a story about LaTroy Hawkins, and I started reading it because I remember LaTroy Hawkins when he was a Fort Wayne Wizard, in particular one sultry night when he went the distance and silenced the opponent in something right around two hours.

It was the middle of a summer in which Hawkins would go three months without losing a game. It was also the middle of the first summer in the history of the Wizards/TinCaps, 21 summers ago.

And now I'm reading about LaTroy Hawkins again, who is now ... 41 years old. And he's still playing baseball.

He's in is 20th season in the major leagues, and he's pitched in 943 games lifetime in the bigs. He's got a son who's 21. And it occurs to me that, the first time I interviewed him down in the Wizards clubhouse, he was younger than his son is now.

Geez, I'm old.
