Pot, $72,000 seized in US 30 bust

Two men from Chicago were stopped on U.S. 30 in Whitley County on Sunday, and a deputy reported smelling raw marijuana.

A search of the vehicle turned up pot, drug paraphernalia and $72,000 in cash, according to a statement issued by Whitley County officials.

The men, both 36, were arrested on related charges and had an initial hearing Monday in Whitley Superior Court. The Journal Gazette is not naming them because the officials did not specify the charges against them.

The statement said the county is pursuing criminal forfeiture of the money and the vehicle.
