Saint Francis gets NAIA tourney draws

Huntington men, women also going to nationals

So now it’s official: The biggest, gaudiest target of all is fastened securely to the Saint Francis Cougars’ back.

The Cougar women, 33-0 and ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division II, discovered their fate Wednesday night, and it was, to say the least, not unexpected. The Cougars will go to Sioux City, Iowa, as the No. 1 overall seed in the Division II national tournament, and will play Ashford, Iowa, in the first round at 1 p.m. on March 12.

The men, meanwhile, drew a No. 14 seed in their national tournament in Point Lookout, Mo., and will take on Robert Morris (Ill.) in the first round at 5 p.m. on March 13.

Huntington’s men and women also made the tournament; the women (23-8), a No. 5 seed, will play No. 4 Menlo, Calif. (25-5) at 1 p.m. March 13 while the men (24-7), the 16 seed, take on Southeastern, Fla. (24-6) at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
