Slumping Komets falter in 3rd

– The Komets lost for the third time in their last four games, after they gave up three unanswered goals in a 4-3 loss to the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night in front of 5,328 fans at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Center Justin Taylor scored 1:34 into the third period to tie it, and forward Nick Sirota got his second of the night 2:08 later.

When leading at the second intermission this season, the Komets have lost 10 of 28 games, with an 18-3-7 record in such instances.

Fort Wayne goaltender Ben Meisner stopped 20 of 24 shots, while Kalamazoo’s Jordan Binnington stopped 30 of 33

The Komets play today at 3 p.m. at Wings Stadium

After Sirota opened the scoring at 5:34 of the first period, the Komets (26-19-11) got consecutive goals from left wing Matt Carter, left wing Chris Auger and defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin, who found the net 45 seconds into the second period.

Kalamazoo (34-18-15) left wing Ludwig Bloomstrand began the rally for his team at 12:52.

Fort Wayne dropped to 3-5-3 against Kalamazoo.

Defenseman Jordon Southorn, in his first game back with the Komets after being released by Hamilton of the American Hockey League, assisted on Danis-Pepin’s goal.
