State 1st lady to talk at education event

Indiana first lady Karen Pence will speak Thursday at the inaugural Project READS Champions for Children’s Education Awards Breakfast.

The program will be 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center, 431 W. Berry St.

Pence, wife of Gov. Mike Pence, is a former teacher in public and private schools. Project READS is an early literacy program operated by the nonprofit Allen County Education Partnership.

Eight students will receive NBC33 Excellence in Education awards at the program.
