Nonprofit reveals campaign

– Greater Fort Wayne Inc. unveiled a marketing campaign Tuesday built around the theme “What do you stand for?”

“Today, we want the greater Fort Wayne community to know that we stand for a greater future,” the nonprofit organization said.

Officials conducted a news conference at their downtown office at 200 E. Main St. to present the branding effort, which has been teased for the past month on 10 local billboards.

Greater Fort Wayne was formed in spring of last year with the merger of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance.

The Downtown Improvement District is negotiating to work jointly with the organization.

Greater Fort Wayne’s goal is to create a common vision and speak with one voice when talking to employers about investments and job creation in Allen County.

To encourage feelings of ownership by local businesses, the organization is now calling companies that pay dues investors instead of members. Officials said the new terminology makes clear that businesses support the community rather than one organization.

Mark Becker, the city’s former deputy mayor, is the organization’s first CEO. John Urbahns, formerly Fort Wayne’s community development director, is executive vice president of economic development. A former alliance official, Karl Bandemer, was hired last year to replace Becker as deputy mayor.
