Doctors to examine goalie Ben Meisner

Komets goaltender Ben Meisner, who left the 5-4 loss to Orlando on Wednesday night because he was experiencing an accelerated heartbeat and dizziness, is getting checked out by both a cardiologist and neurologist later today.

The Komets don’t know whether there will be any update beyond that today, but I will keep you posted.

According to Komets president Michael Franke, Meisner was able to return home late Wednesday night.

“His health is the No. 1 most important thing and we don’t want to be lax in any area,” Franke said.

Meisner had experienced some dizziness before the game, but the Komets weren’t aware of it, Franke said.

Meisner was the only goalie on the roster because Andrey Makarov was called up to Rochester of the American Hockey League on Monday.

After Meisner left the game Wednesday, Fort Wayne native Larkin Saalfrank filled in as an emergency goalie.

This may be something as simple as the flu, Franke said, but they want to make sure everything is OK before Meisner gets on the ice again. So it’s unclear whether he will play this weekend.

The Komets expect to have a new goalie here today, but I don’t know who that is yet.
