WBOI radio transmitter damaged in outages

Late Wednesday afternoon there were a number of power outages across Allen County, and a transformer on the power line that supplies electricity to WBOI-FM blew out, according to an email sent out Thursday by the station.

It said the transmitter for the public radio station, 89.1 FM, was damaged.

"Due to these damages we are currently broadcasting at limited power," the station said. It apologized to those experience "signal issues."

President and General Manager Peter Dominowski said in a statement that the station does not yet know how long it will take for the situation to be resolved.

It said listeners can go online at WBOI.org or WBNI.org, or select the NIPR App through the App Store on iTunes or Google Play.

The classical music station, WBNI-FM, might experience some outages during repairs, the station said.
