Irish march on to Sweet 16

TOLEDO – The Notre Dame women's basketball team remained undefeated and charged into the Sweet 16 with an 84-67 rout of No. 9 seed Arizona State on Monday night at Savage Arena.

It is the fifth consecutive season the Irish have advanced out of the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Top-seeded Notre Dame (34-0) led 32-26 at halftime and wasted no time breaking away after intermission. The Irish scored the first six points to open a 12-point lead and stretched it to 57-39 with less than 11 minutes to go.

Natalie Achonwa had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Notre Dame, while Jewell Loyd finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior Kayla McBride added 22 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

Arizona State (23-10) received 16 points from Deja Mann.
