IPFW tennis coach Eric Burns picked up his 200th career coaching victory at IPFW, as the Mastodons swept Green Bay on Saturday.
"I'm really proud of our effort in this match," Burns said. "We played very focused, which is what we needed heading into our conference matches next weekend."
IPFW made quick work of the doubles matches, as the No. 1 pair of Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck closed first with an 8-1 win, before Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardsonalso won by an 8-1 score at No. 2 pairs. The IPFW pair of Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren closed it out with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Mastodons picked up a point with the Phoenix not putting a player in the No. 6 spot, before Richardson swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
The match was secured for the Mastodons (10-7) after Huck grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4. The Mastodons swept the remaining three individual matches, as Shustova won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
IPFW added a 6-1, 6-3 win by Sato at No. 1 singles, and ended the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win by Norgren at No. 2 singles.
The Mastodons return home after spending the last month on the road, playing host to South Dakota State on April 4, Western Illinois on April 5, and IUPUI on April 6.
