Still six games to go, but here is MY end-of-year player awards.

Gallmeier Mem trophy/Comm svc : Danis-Pepin

Weigmann Family true Komet : Marino

Nob Brick Stonewall Defensive Forward: Nutkevitch

Mr. Hustle award: Embach

Unsung hero award: (Tie) Auger/ Embach/ Meisner

Komet Kwarters Most improved player: Hartman

Komet defenseman of the year: Lacasse

Komet rookie of the year: Fleming

Komet MVP: Marino

Any ideas? Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. Just my list.

Just as I posted 7-10 days ago (get it?) my season ending and qualifying offer list, there are a number of guys I'd like to see back. Also I'd like for this wish.

My wish would include (besides the players), a permanent assistant coach, a re-defined and simpler offense (concentrating on passing and the powerplay). Grabbing an experienced, talented, goaltender who is past looking toward moving up. (Like a Jakaitis, Guggenberger, Martin kind of guy that stabilizes your netminding along with a young prospect). Other things that I dare not mention for fear of a reader "revolt". (You know what and who I mean)!

You can still "thumbs down" me and still offer your thoughts.

Gallmeier Mem trophy/Comm svc : I haven't seen enough evidence of community involvement to pick a winner.

Weigmann Family true Komet : Marino

Nob Brick Stonewall Defensive Forward: Auger? Years of Chaulk and Hukalo spoiled us.

Mr. Hustle award: Embach

Unsung hero award: Meisner (Honorable mention to Bobby Hughes, he'd be the winner if he told Gary to "F Off" at a home game.)

Komet Kwarters Most improved player: Hartman

Komet defenseman of the year: Southorn

Komet rookie of the year: Fleming

Komet MVP: Marino

We have 3 games against Toledo. We MUST win all of those games. Two against Cincinnati and we have had their number all year..again we MUST win those games. The Evansville game could be very interesting depending if they are still in the playoff picture or not. I say we need to win 4 to get the 8th spot and 5 to get 7th. What does everyone else think? Alan, what do you think would have happened if we had brought in Charlie Effinger this year to be that veteran goalie? I personally think it would have been a lot more stable than what we have seen all season.

If Florida stays 1 point behind us, we are going to have to win all the remaining games. These next six games will tell how bad this team really wants to be in the playoffs. Lets Go Komets!!

Nice list Alan! I have to agree with JM on Southorn, but I agree with most of yours.

Michael, I always liked Effinger. If you recall, he always got pushed aside with the affiliation we had with Anaheim. In my opinion he never had a chance to be (or get any) consistency because of the relationship with the affiliation. So much depends on the defense ( and that also means not just the defensemen, but how the forwards react when they do not have the puck).

It used to be that the Franke's built their team from the goal line out. Didn't happen this year. They had a plan to use Muse and Reichard. The plan collapsed with the call up of Muse.

Not a problem, 5MinuteMajor. This list is purely subjective. I looked at both Southorn AND Coyle.

The plus/minus was the statistic that swayed me.

JM, really, did you not pay attention to the goings on lately? Please, I know you're gonna say, "I didn't actually write it." And my response: "And when kids start repeating that phrase?"
Just a reminder, I think we can make our points without the profanity.

And to be clear, I'm the most profane person you'd know. Ask anyone. Just would like to eliminate it here. Thanks.

I apologize to Justin and anyone else I may have offended with my vulgarity. It was not my intent to corrupt anyone's children.

An apology even garners a thumbs down for Ol' JungleMonkey? At least my detractors are consistent.

The Indy Fuel just announced an affiliation with the Blackhawks.

Just saw Indy Fuel signed a 5 year affiliation with the Blackhawks. Not sure if April fools or not, but if not, makes you wonder why Komets can't and don't get a long term deal with someone.

Wasn't a huge deal, JM, sorry you got thumbsed down. Just a friendly reminder.

Staytrue81: I don't think there are any particular obstacles to the Komets getting an affiliation, but the Frankes' experiences with affiliations, going back to the original IHL days, have been universally negative, with the exception of the arrangement we seemed to have with the old Winnipeg Jets regarding goaltenders (like Stephane Beauregard and Pokey Reddick). None of the folks we got from Anaheim/Norfolk last year were particularly helpful, and I think I read somewhere that none of them are even in the Ducks org anymore, so we were in essence getting their mistakes. Having an affiliation is certainly no guarantee of having a winning team (see Walleye, Toledo), but is a guarantee of having a lot of roster volatility that's not under our control. (Yeah, we've had a lot of roster churn this year, but for good or for ill, it's been internally generated.)

The ECHL is just that, a place for the NHL to put their contractual mistakes. If the players were good they'd be in the AHL or NHL.

That being said, I'd take a team full of talented, affiliated flops that are headcases over this years Komets that were in large part untalented, unaffiliated flops that are headcases.

JM, you and I would take the contractual mistakes over this years fiasco, but, I do not think that our coach would! I strongly believe that he wanted as much control as possible and would not have handled an affiliation well at this level. He had enough "cancers", his words not mine, without having an AHL team dump unwanted players in his lap. That would have been fun to watch I think it is very interesting that Chicago signs up Indy for 5 years. There deal with Toledo must have expired or Toledo is going to be 100% aligned with Detroit. I can't imagine the Franke's signing on with Chicago or anyone for 5 years! They would lose too much control.
Let's see if this team can go on a home winning streak...something that they have not done all year. It is almost scary that they have 5 of the last 6 at home with this seasons lack of success here. We will see what they are really made of now!

You have no control in the ECHL regardless of an affiliation or no affiliation.

So just for kicks and giggles...if Justin Hodgman does return, what is the ECHL rule for minimum games (if any) for players to be eligible for the playoffs?

I don't want to have to "run" to the rulebook, just want to know if anyone has the answer.
