Statement as issued Tuesday by the Hoosier Lottery:
INDIANAPOLIS (April 1, 2014) – It never occurred to Michelle Hutker that she might be a Powerball winner.
The Decatur resident, who admits she is not a regular Hoosier Lottery player, struck it big when she won $1 million in the March19 Powerball drawing. She said she was oblivious to all the speculation in town about who had the winning ticket and, in fact, held her ticket for a week before checking it.
Hutker, a fifth-grade teacher, said the win is all about her family including, her husband of 14 years, Dax, and their two children, ages 13 and 18.
“I’m excited that my kids will have a stable future because this is such a blessing for our family. I have also dreamed of taking the kids on vacation to Hawaii where my husband and I got married,” Hutcker expressed while claiming her check at the Hoosier Lottery headquarters in Indianapolis.
The winning numbers in the March 19 drawing were 2-19-23-34-43 and the red Powerball number was 14. Hutker won her $1 million by matching the five white ball numbers, without the Powerball. Although she picked the numbers herself, she said they had no special significance, but they had been in her head for a while.
Relying on those instincts makes Hutker one of four Indiana residents since January to score a match-five win. Two of the players won $1 million, and another player won $2 million after matching the five and also playing the Power Play® option.
