Your Opening Day opening act

You may have to arrive by ark, but as of now, the rain has slackened and the TinCaps and Great Lakes are a go at Parkview Field to open the 2014 season.

On the bump for the TinCaps will be a familiar face: Walker Weickel, who went 3-6 with a 5.04 ERA for the TinCaps a year ago in his first full pro season. Opposing him for Great Lakes will be 19-year-old Jonathan Martinez from Venezuela, regarded as the 40th best prospect in the Dodgers organization.

Martinez also pitched for Great Lakes last year, appearing 15 games with seven starts. He had a 3.51 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .263 average.

Weickel, meanwhile, is among six pitchers on the TinCaps staff who saw action here last season. The others are Erik Cabrera, Matt Chabot, Tayron Guerrero, Genison Reyes and Josh Richardson.

If history is any guide, it'll be a good night for the TinCaps, weather permitting. The Fort Wayne franchise is 15-6 all-time on Opening Day.
